The Keep Calm Gallery...It's a favourite of mine. I had a hard time narrowing down my top prints, but James Brown seems to be a repeat offender.

If you're planning a visit to the Okanagan (maybe checking out the wine festival) you have got to stop at "Object Orange." A store entirely dedicated to the Mid Century Modern Home. Oh swoon, it is absolutely amazing! I just wanted to roll around in all of its' mid century modern glory. The collection of pieces he carries are in amazing condition, of the best quality and totally unique. You'll be able to find some rare gems, and there's more than just furniture, there's art work, jewelry, pottery, electronics and lighting. The prices are right!
There's enough teak, chrome, vinyl, lucite and coloured glass to melt the pickiest of purchasers. You'll find a ton of photos and information on Object Oranges' Facebook page. Object Orange is located at 110 Cannery Lane in The Arts District - Kelowna

I really like big letters! They remind me of 1930's theatre marquee letters, changing each individual letter by hand in preparation for a new show. Or what about the signage used outside of 1950's diners, think of LA car hops and girls on roller skates. Maybe I'm just a romantic nostalgist for large letters, a girl can dream.

Vancouver is in the midst of Olympic mania, everywhere you look there is something interesting to see. Last night I couldn't help but notice that the Vancouver Art Gallery has an enormous hand painted botanical mural placed across the front of the entire gallery! The colours were rich and warm; red, orange and rose. The mural is by the artist Michael Lin and measures nearly 6000 square feet. A pleasant reminder of the summer to come and the inspiration for todays blog post - botanical prints. It's maintenance free greenery.
Outdoor living walls have amazing benefits such as lowering heating and cooling costs, helping filter air pollution, working as sound insulation and of course they're beautiful to look at! But there is a smidgen of controversy regarding indoor living walls in public buildings.
A growing number of buildings have considered and an indoor living wall installation. They'll be an intriguing and climatic welcome to any public space, they'll cleanse the air of toxins, humidify and boost work productivity and morale. But plants can't live under fluorescent lights and what about water? Outdoor walls can be sustained using rain water and natural light, an indoor wall requires continual watering and if there isn't adequate natural light, hydroponic grow lamps. There's much maintenance to ensure healthy growth. Some say that the amount of required energy consumed to keep an indoor living wall alive out weigh it's benefits.
Greenwork offers a modular mobile living wall that was designed with public buildings in mind, it has a self-automated watering and nutrition system.
If you live or work in a space with lots of natural light, then growing your own green wall is a relatively simple task with ELT Easy Green and Gardeners Supply Co.
Keep Calm Gallery has introduced 2 limited edition prints by Gavin Harrison. Gavin used images torn from vintage magazines to create these montages. I absolutely adore the layers, each one adds a new element and is either giving or hiding a secret. It's like a map that needs decoding!!
Act quickly as there are only 50 prints, each signed and numbered! $64 each.

I've always had a thing for Egypt, it conjures up all kinds of ideas of royalty's opulence and power. Stories of the pyramids, gold, queens, pharaohs and lost civilizations. So what does this have to do with personal style? Here are few Egypt inspired pieces I might like to add my home...
Ten Thousand Villages - "Naturally Woven Basket"
Flat screen tv's: the dilemma of placement, where to put it and how high? If you're going to mount your tv on the wall, ideally it should be at eye level. A good rule of thumb is the centre of the screen should be 45"- 48" from the floor. If you don't want to commit to holes in the wall, another option is to place your tv on a low console table or hutch. Check your local thrift stores, you might find something useful, a sofa table would do the trick, just shorten the legs.
Ikea has many in-expensive tv options. "Friel" TV Panel with Sliding Door - $200

By the look of my category cloud - Art seems to be a popular post for me. So I promise after this post I'll lay off the art for a while. But in the meantime I couldn't resist this post. The artist is Penelope Umbrico, she took to Flickr and pulled multiple images of sunsets and moonrise then superimposed them. Giving each image greater or lesser opacity Penelope has created such an eye catching effect. And seeing as you can you purchase theses prints from 20x200 - you know they won't burst your budget bubble!
And if you want to dig a little deeper you'll find more of her work ...here
